Christine’s passion for winemaking came through the Wawawai wine. She was as delightful as the wines. They have a lovely room in which we brought our picnic lunch, enjoyed with a bottle of Wawawai wine. The tasting room was clean and nice. The wine was served in the appropiate glass and rinsed or changed in between tastes. We recommend them to everyone.
I’ll always remember how, when I was writing WILLIAM MALTESE’S WINE TASTER’S DIARY: SPOKANE/PULLMAN WASHINGTON AREA, I finally made the stop off at Wawawai Canyon, despite having been warned that there was little point in my going to the Palouse area of Washington State because “there are only a very few wineries there.”
Well, yes, there are only a few wineries there, including Wawawai, but miss any of them, including this one, and you miss some of the top winemakers in the state.
Christine at Wawawai, with her unabashed enthusiasm for what she does, and does so well, so much took me back to the great vineyards and wineries of France that I felt I’d truly “come home”. Certainly, Wawawai provided me with some genuinely high-quality wine that, unlike so much Washington wine, didn’t leave me with the impression that it catered to Washington drinkers who demand a wine go directly from vine, to bottle, to table (do not pass GO). Wawawai wines are some of the very few I found in Washington that actually stood up to aging, and which Christine actually allowed to age.
This winery is NOT to be missed! Not is its wines.
